A journey through vintage ads (from:JLC)
I would like to share with you some vintage ads in order to go through 40 years of Jaeger-LeCoultre history (from the late 1920s to the late 1960s).
From Jaeger to Jaeger-LeCoultre
At the beginning of the 20th century, Lecoultre was an established company in the watchmaking industry, but it remained unknown to the final customers, as the manufacture was a supplier of nice movements for other brands. I have never seen Lecoultre ads from that period.
On the other hand, Jaeger was a recognized name,

Debethune pictures from the technical drawings DB24 (from:Horological Meandering)
OK gentlemen. I can't really imagine any women wanting to read this after my "Hublot Big Bang King" below, as in
home.watchprosite.com
but this one...is for those who really do like movements AND a big wtch, and I really do like THIS DB24, and next to the "king from Hublot", this is the exact opposite, size is retained as an attraction. No Patek type of conservative BS here..chuckles, no offense to Patek!
Now for the very exciting parts and bits...
And this

Watch Review - VC Patrimony Traditionnelle Self Winding (from:Vacheron Constantin)
Making It New
When Ezra Pound exhorted "Make it new," he was challenging his contemporaries to find value in the cultural works of the past and to recast them for the present. Pound himself used the techniques of translation, imitation, allusion, and quotation to achieve his artistic goals. An overarching challenge for watch designers at historical firms is to come up with designs that respect their firm's heritage while also remaining relevant to contemporary tastes. That is, to "make it new." They us

This year Cartier International Polo celebrated its 24th anniversary. The most anticipated event of the polo calendar was watched by a 30,000 strong crowd and featured a thrilling battle for the Coronation Cup between England and Australia; it was a tight game with England ending up winning 10-9. Basel 2008: Patek Philippe 5207 instantaneous perpetual calendar (from:Patek Philippe)
Baselworld 2008
was a rich show for Patek Philippe. We certainly had enough new offerings to
please all Patek Philippe lovers. The simple watch amateurs got the marvellous
5124 Gondolo as a subject of admiration, the white gold version being a very
appealing homage to the 5101 tourbillon. The serious collectors have to choose
(if necessary) between the blue 5070P, the yellow 5970J or the pink dialed
5450P! Did we talk about the highly complicated pieces aficionados? Not yet! Oh

Casemaking at Thomas Prescher Haute Horlogerie
Today I will be visiting Thomas Prescher to see their CNC machine making case parts and learn how this is done. After arriving in Twann by train I realise that I could have better taken the boat for a leisurely voyage. The train station is about 15 yards from the pier.
After a 5 minute walk to the Prescher shop I find Thomas and Marc, one of his watchmakers and CNC specialist, ready to go.&n

I promise to relook at the Opus 8, as a potential customer. (from:Harry Winston)
For what it is worth...I have been thinking that to own one, may just add a certain "completeness" to my collection.
In fact, it may boost my collection's carnival status...I mean this in the most positive light!
So far, the team has been working on an even MORE ambitious and awe inspiring project...Opus 3, and it is about time to see it. My hats off to the guys behind both Opus 8 and 3.

As we spoke of Perpetual Calendars, is the A.LECOULTRE 8 DAYS Perpetual the nicest? (from:JLC)
I recently posted a topic about the Grande Memovox, an appealing perpetual calendar with its platinum case and its deep blue dial...It gave me the idea to make a comparative post about JLC Perpetual Calendars...This A.L 8 Days Perpetual is, for me, one of the more elgant and very nicest JLC Perpetual CalendarIt corresponds more to the view I have of a classic and timeless piece.
The platinum case ( All the A.LECOULTRE watches have a platinum case ), is 41,5mm large, traditionnaly designed, with som

Reinventing the history of Jaquet Droz (from:Jaquet Droz)
I know many of you have seen the animated ad for Montres Jaquet Droz on the forum.
How do I know this?
Because of the number of emails I've received asking me to explain how it is possible for Jaquet Droz to be celebrating it 270th anniversary!
Well, here is the fact. In 1738 Pierre Jaquet Droz set up his first horological workshop at a farm called Sur Le Pont in La Chaux de Fonds. At the time there was no such thing as the modern day wristwatch. Pierre Jaquet Droz excelle

Some impressions of the WW.TC Lady reference 49860 (and a real lady) (from:Girard Perregaux)
Dear enthusiasts,
new for 2008 are these additions to GP´s Lady WW.TC, the popular world timer which was re-designed to fit the female wrists:
The newly added variations include fully paved cases in pink or white gold, with genuine mother-of-pearl dials in different matching colours an satin fabric straps. Another variant, which already is quite in demand, is the "WW.TC Shopping" we´ve covered earlier - the "shopping zones" in 3 different variations make for a fun accessory,

Quick thoughts about an admirable watch: The Senator Rattrapante (from:Glashütte Original)
Last week, I had the opportunity to see and admire another great Chrono, one of those you / we never think about when we speak about prestigious pieces...The Senator Rattrapante!
This is true, we always speak of the PP 5070, the Chrono Malte from Vacheron, the JLC Duo Metre A Chronographe or, of course, of the Lange Datograph...And never, or quite never, of this GO!This is not fair, as this Chrono is a beautiful example of the sense of the finish of the German Watchmaking...First, a gorgeous, not to

A quick view on the Longines Diver Vintage (from:Horological Meandering)
At the Beginning of
the 60ies, or at the end of the 50ies, some manufactures released very nice
Diving Watches, like Vulcain with its Nautical, JLC with the Deep Sea Alarm,
Enicar with the Super Divette, the Sherpa, etc, with this specificity that
there were 2 crowns watches, with an inside bezel.
Of course, I'm not saying that the diving watches appeared only in the
beginning of the Sixties, as Panerai launched in 1936 the Cali, and some famous
brands were competiting on this thema since 1953

A quick Ode to the Black Memovox (from:JLC)
This is IMHO the nicest, the most elegant Memovox ever made!I had the opportunity to get one for some days, and to take some pics to share with you all. And, although I already knew that I loved it, now I know that I need it!The Memovox ref E 855, is IMHO a timeless watch, and with the black dial and these thin and long embossed indexes, this version is just gorgeous.Look at these curves, at these proportions and volumes,
Did you notice the slightly domed plexy, which enhances the ch
